Crashes and Smiles

Want to know how to make a mother's heart skip not just one beat, but many, many beats? Tell her that her youngest child is going to play wheelchair rugby!

Wheelchair rugby is a cross between basketball, football and soccer with a whole lot of bumper car thrown in. Think crashes, spills and super fast wheeling. Ronnie did a marvelous job - I was a nervous wreck!

Here are some photos my son, Chip took during the scrimmage:

I thought you had to have impairment in your arms as well to play. Have you seen the movie Murderball? Buy it.

Cheryl, you are correct. To play competitively, Ronnie would have to have some degree of impairment in all four limbs. He doesn't. But he can play recreationally.

Is Murderball appropriate for a 16 year old? Isn't it rated 'R'?

I would like to see it but wondered if Ronnie should watch it.

I love the "Mad Max" feel of the wheelchairs. Bravo Ronnie!

I own it, and although I haven't watched it in over a year, I recall that there is a lot of cursing and a section where the men talk about how someone with an SCI has sex, but no nudity or violence (other then repeatedly crashing into each other on the court that is). I wouldn't see a problem with any 16 y.o. watching. In my mind watching wheelchair using men that live independently, date (there's 1 guy who's married with a kid), are productive members of society, outweighs everything else.

Thanks Cheryl. I'll see if I can find it at the Red Box.

You won't find it in a Redbox, but I did once find it Comcast On Demand. I'd mail you my copy, but it has a scratch in it.

Cheryl, I'll get my son, Chip, to try to find it. He's my 'source' for all things movie-related :)
